There are almost no children starving here - any that are are usually doing so because their parents have severe problems and child protective services hasn't found out yet. And people who are poor get free medical care from the government.

Best wishes and God bless.

The following is a list of the top ten richest countries of the world and the USA ranks third.

Rank Country GDP - per capita
1 Luxembourg $ 55,100
2 Norway $ 37,800
3 United States $ 37,800
4 San Marino $ 34,600
5 Switzerland $ 32,700
6 Denmark $ 31,100
7 Iceland $ 30,900
8 Austria $ 30,000
9 Canada $ 29,800
10 Ireland $ 29,600

It seems to me that those who have the money enjoy the "power" that they imagine that they over those who don't. Believing that they can control pretty much how things are run and as long as it benefits them.

For those who never earned a dollar in their lives (Paris Hilton), and have all the money they could imagine, they have no real concept of what it is like to be really without enough money to provide for your family.

The U.S. is not the richest country in the world by a long shot and the welfare system isn't working ... I have been called a commie and socialist for saying that I do believe a proper federally funded health care is a necessity ... it works in other countries, for example Britain, where health care is completely free to everyone ... and when I say free, I mean it's funded by the tax payers ... and before I hear you scream ... taxes will go up ... yes they will, by about a couple of pennies only, because the tax base is vast ... compare that to the amount you fork out in health care now ... now that WOULD give the children and the elderly health care and proper nutrition ... it also doesn't help that the country's wealth is held by a privileged few who don't seem to give a rats behind for their compatriots ...

Poverty, exploitation and oppression are products of the capitalist system, a system in which a minority ruling class profits from the labor of the majority.

The structures of the present government grew up under capitalism and are designed to protect capitalist rule.

The specially oppressed groups within the working class suffer the most under capitalism.

THE SYSTEM is rigged so that the wealth of U.S. society "trickles up," not down--from the poor and working class into the pockets of the rich.

Take Katrina for instance, disasters in American history have almost always been theaters of class struggle and racial struggle. This is class struggle on an extraordinary scale.

You are going to see the loss of tens of thousands of units of housing, which will be used by local elites as a fait accompli to keep certain people out of the city (guess who).

Reconstruction can’t be used to further divide the people of New Orleans and to physically evict people from the city. That, in effect, is what’s going on. The Republicans want to use this as a massive experiment in conservative social engineering. The Democrats may oppose pieces of it, but they will undoubtedly accept the larger contours of a shrunken, more streamlined city with less poor Black people.

This shows in dramatic relief the policies that have just eviscerated inner-city America for the last 25 years, under both Republicans and Democrats.

I we average ordinary people really wanted to help the people there, we would go down there and actually do it, but we are too greedy or tied to the system by its rules to do so.

That is the sad part. There are many other examples of this if you really think about it.

First off, the idea that there are NO starving children in america is asinine to the fullest extent. Second, We are not the richest country in the world, China is. Unfortunately, I cannot restore your confidence in our countries politics, because quite frankly they suck. And I agree, why are we helping the whole damn world when we can't even help our selves? Can anyone tell me why Billions and Billions of dollars every year are spent on war, and NOT on education?

I know...this is something that irritates me too...next time you watch tv count the number of commercials about sponsering children in africa and so on...do you ever see commercials begging for your money to help our own? NO..there is a campaign called The ONE..thats about global poverty and AIDS, sadly thats the only campaign I can think of. The children of this country are our future, there needs to be more done to take care of them.

We are a selfish, self centered nation and many adults think having a cell phone and cable are necessities, not conveniences. We do not really value people but money and social standing. You can be a ray of hope though and not behave in the same way.
