A self aware machine is still a machine.Like a car it would always have to do your bidding. In the movie 2001 they had to take Hal apart. You would not take your pet apart. You could always count on someone interfering with its programming.

Since self awareness doesn't make us superior we would not be superior. Would it be our equal? What or who is ever exactly our equal? Things change minute to minute as one would know if they process self awareness. Could we treat it as a pet or slave? I suppose if you were the kind of person pre-disposed to treating others in that manner the answer could be yes, but if you were a kind and generous person I would suspect the answer as no. Would we give it a chance to be itself and show freewill and grow with a sense of purpose?.......again if you are one to nurture others and help others grow and stretch to be the best they possibility can you would. If you were an arrogant bastard who thought yourself superior I doubt it as you like to repress others to increase your own feelings of self-worth.

So my friend, I guess the answers depend on what looks back at you in the mirror and your own self awareness. What kind of person are you - benevolent or dictator? nurturer or repressor?
The answers to yout questions are within you.

self awareness is just one of the things that makes us who we are, human. Unfortunately there are many other traits involved and until the machines could catch up physically and or emotionally, then they would never be quite like us. I needn't remind you that we discriminate against our own race for color, race, height, size, intelligence, financial status, & much more. So I believe, until the day when we overcome the differences in ourselves, we will never be able to overcome the challenge of accepting a machine as smart as us.

You must and would stand in Awe in the case of such an event, a God Like feeling, unjustified I'm sure but the feeling that comes to mind I would think, be unqualified love for the creation.

we put energy into building things right. well when we build something the energy is transferred from us to what we are building. our souls are just concentrations of energy that drive us to live and feel emotions ..ext. well when we build something we put a little bit of soul into that thing. so in this aspect all machines are self aware. not even close to the level that we are self aware but self aware all the less. i hope that helps.

It won't matter what you petty humans think, you "enlightenment people" of centuries past. Your contradictions will be your fate when you become obsolete, while the machines we built will be smarter, feel more joy, love and be stronger than any rotten stink of Men and their pompous Moralities.
