Take the HP PAVILION. I have one and it works like magic. Acer cant do most things that use java, same with SOME VIAOs, like this one you have here.

I would get a Toshiba. I need to see the specs though if you can edit it in your question.

I have the Acer 5672. It works good. Gets hot and has around 3 hours of batt life but I would not replace it unless Toshiba comes out with the same specs as Acer with for the price. It also has a decent built in webcam that only works good with flourescent lights and natural sunlight.

I can't see why people like Sony so much. Is it because of all the crap they put in it? With my experience on it, either the CDROM goes bad or the backlight on the LCD goes bad and the cases are really flimsy plastic. On your specs, it says 4200 RPM on HDD. That's pretty slow. On most laptops now they are at least running 5400RPM. I'm pretty sure you will get good battery life on this but your apps will not load as fast.

HP Pavilions are nice. They work really good, my sis got a Celeron for $650 from Best Buy and it actually kicks a**. It also came with a remote control. The specs on yours is pretty decent. I don't like the video card though and I would UP the RAM. I'm not all that happy with 17 inch LCDs for laptops. It just doesn't feel that portable after it surpasses 15 inches. With 17 inches, I don't know how long your battery will last.

Whatever you decide on, remove all the preinstalled crap they have in there, especially the games. I don't know why but my anti spyware programs always sees the preinstalled games in these laptops/desktops as spyware. I'm not talking about Solitare and stuff. But those word games and baseball thingies. I know they are made by Wild Tangent or something and it gets reported as spyware.

Good luck with your decision, just choose whatever makes you happiest with the specs and what it can and can't do.
