they don't think it is not a sport, they know it is not a sport.

And yet why do they think golf is? Simple answer: Because men don't do it. Women are still viewed as the weaker sex so an activity performed mainly by women can't be strenuous enough to be a sport. Also, most people view the main purpose of cheerleaders is eye candy at football games. Therefore it is viewed more as entertainment than sport. And then there's a lack of scoring. Yes, in competition there is scoring. But most people don't watch competitions. Most people see cheer-leading during games where it is exhibition. Without scores to easily tally it is hard for the average Joe to know who is winning. Most people follow sports by the scores, not necessarily by the performance.

I think it's because it's usually associated with providing and raising support for a different sport (like basketball or football). That connotation makes it more likely to have the stigma of 'accessory' rather than the central sport theme.
But, since sport is often defined as: "a physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively," my guess is that in this realm, cheerleading definitely can be competitively performed and judged.
If you're into it, who cares what others deem it. Just enjoy it.

Because it isn't much of a sport like football or soccor becuase most sports have like footballs that they try to make a goal or a touchdown or shoot but in cheerleading u can't do that.

Because they don't understand what really goes into cheerleading. It is hard work and you really need to be good at it!
I say it is a sport because:
You have to train and be in good shape to do it
It is competative
People who say it isn't just think that they jump up and down at football games. Next time someone says that to you, calmly explain to them that they are an idiot, and walk away. :)

Because they don't have much sportsmanship or their criteria of sports are different. I think cheerleading is a sport.

Definition of sport:
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
It's probably because you aren't cheering competitively every week like sports teams.

i think it's because cheerleaders don't score points in a game but people don't realize how athletic you have to be to do the things a cheerleader would.
