depends on what day they made it on a teusday maybe ok but on a friday forget it they just want out of the shop. No, really there is no real time frame for a steering pump. Essentially it should last for the life of the car whatever that is supposed to be. have owned many cars and put 100k's of miles and never had to replace one. Maybe just lucky but I am under the assumption that they last pretty much forever. But there is always room for errors when they are built.

Hard to say. I work at a GM dealership, so I see a bit of everything. Some last less than a thousand miles, some last for ten times that. There is no guaranteed mileage for any part. Parts come from all over the world and some times they just break. Its a byproduct of mass production and the need to be priced competitively.

The guy who said that he works at a GM dealership and said that he's seen new power steering pumps crap out that has less than a thousand miles on them is a total moron. Sure wouldn't want him working on my vehicle.

what is wrong with the pump? gm has a common problem where the shaft seal leaks and if this is the problem it's much cheaper to replace the seal than the whole pump

A POWER STEERING PUMP DOES NOT HAVE A LIFE SPAN, IT GOES OUT WHEN IT IS READY (I HAVE BEEN IN AUTOMOTIVE FOR 18 YEARS AND I HAVE REPLACED THEM WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW , WHEN THEY WERE @ 250,000 MILE AND EVERY WHERE BETWEEN) HOPE THIS HELPS YOU
