An 8 year girl told me not long ago, "I wish I had flowers like you." What the heck does it mean. (Her name is Casey.)

I asked her, but she didn't say anything. I asked her again, and I was pretty sure she heard me that time, but she still didn't say anything, so I gave up, and pretended to forgot about it; until now.

Apparently, what happens is that Casey learned to say "I wish I had flowers like you" in a situation where someone had flowers but someone else didn't.

At that age, it's quite possible that she overgeneralized the meaning of the noun "flowers" or of the entire clause "I wish I had flowers like you", and used it in that situation you mention, either to express that she admires or envies you for some reason, or because she just felt like using a nice-sounding expression in an unrelated situation in which it sounds absurd to adults.

Children are talkative at that age, and they like talking even if they use their expressions out of the original situation. Sometimes they just want to display their newly acquired vocabulary, because it just sounds "cool" to to them.

Since you say that you asked Casey what she means when saying "I wish I had flowers like you", and she didn't answer, she probably just felt like showing off that expression because it sounds nice to her. Maybe she felt it was just a kind thing to say.

Perhaps you should ask her parents or someone who hangs around with her if she's recently been in a situation where flowers were present or mentioned. For example, playing with flowers, reading a book where flowers were mentioned, or watching a TV program on which flowers were mentioned. It sounds like the girl likes flowers.

Coming from an eight year old you may never know. However she may have seen something on you, or within you and she felt like expressing it to you, in the only way she knew how. I know you don't literally mean the actual flowers, because you would not be so wind up. Kids are special in their own way, all of them are there own individuals, and for her to have told you that, who knows you may have an aura that no one else see, and she saw it. So be pleased and happy she said this to you. Thinking flowers, it is a beautiful thing. So maybe I to wish "I had flowers like you", if it is a positive thing, and of course it is. After all it came out of the mouth of a little child...So keep blooming!!!!

My 8 year old says some weird things to.... But if you really want to know what it means then ask ... her... she will think more of you and it will give her the chance to feel you are interested in her and can communicate with you... it will bring you two closer alot closer at that age they look for approval, info, and attention, not only all that but by asking her, your telling her that she can help you ... in her way that will make her feel very important .... and that is the main thing an 8 year old wants.... my 8 year old say alot and I have to ask her what do you mean by that, or can you explain what you meant .... maybe even laugh and say what was that supose to mean.. as then they will ramble it right off.. don't worry about the 8 year old judging you because you do not know what she meant... for 8 year olds and children in general don't think like that..... towards adults.... they want those adults to understand them... it will help her while she grows to.... and you as welll.... good luck and hey let us know what she meant by that to .... lol...

That means she thinks you are pretty and smells nice, and in her 8 year old mind, you are like a flower, adn she wishes she had some that were as pretty and nice as you are.
