Was it the red card(Rooney)?

No, having rooney sent off gave them more spirit and they had more chances with 10 men. It was the penalties that went wrong... England always lose on penalties. I mean, lampard and gerrard BOTH MISSED! Have you seen the range from which they can score, never mind scoring a penalty. I think it was just nerves when it came down to it. The nation puts so much pressure on the players that they just collapse when they start to think about it...
Oh well :(

I think it was a mixture of the coaching and the pressure, combined with bad luck. However, they just never showed up the whole tournament, really. A 1-0 victory on an own goal over Paraguay, Trinidid&Tobago had them scoreless for 75+ minutes, they let Sweden get back into the game and tie it 2-2, and they scored one goal, of a free kick, against Ecuador. I think losing Beckham really hurt them. He played a big part in two of their wins, and they needed their captain out there. Also, losing Michael Owen earlier in the tournament didnt help any. He would have been nice to have out there today.

England has yet to master the PSO! They should learn from teams like Germany or Brasil!
