It's not under warranty? That's weird. Probably a couple grand (1500-3000), though it depends on where you get it done. The transmission is a time-intensive job, and you're likely to see a several hundred bucks price differential just based on where you have the work done. If you don't know any mechanics who will give you a good, fair deal, go to your Honda dealership where you bought it and try to haggle them down on the repairs - You bought this from them and now a year later the transmission's dead!? Good luck getting your return business!

how can a transmission be bad on a 2005 honda must suck that thing is practically new. call around to get the best prices even if it means going through the phone book thats what i do saves big bucks

Depends on if you get a rebuilt..have yours rebuilt..or try to get a new one...and who you have do it. How the heck did you hose up a tranny on an automatic 2005 Honda Element?
