If you truly love this country and want to live here....then you should become a citizen. If you want to come work here and make money to send home...then you should get a work visa and be here legally. Why is this concept so hard for people to understand?

I work in Springdale, Arkansas, home of Tyson chicken. I see tons of illegal immigrants who came here to work in the chicken processing plants.

In general, Latin Americans are friendly, family-oriented, caring people.

However, I also know that my wife got hit by one. He was driving without a license. The cop turned the other way on it, not giving him a ticket. I believe the local attitute is that we need the workers for cheap labor, so don't scare them off. In the meantime, they break the law, they get away with it. Most of them don't have licenses period (I know someone who works at a bank, and they would always have an "identification card" and even the drivers of the cars would not present a license.) If a white guy with a sports car had been driving without a license and caused an accident, he would have been taken downtown. The law should be blind to race, color, nationality, etc.

I work at a local emergency room. There are literally dozens of illegals who come in every day seeking care. Their complaints are usually something like "My child had diarrhea one time," "My child got a fever this morning," or "My child has diarrhea and a fever since last night." Because it is an emergency room, we cannot deny treatment to them or tell them that they simply need to pay their bill that they already owe and find a family doctor. And the illegals know it. Because of this, the local hospital continues to lose money and will likely close in the next 5-10 years.

The worst thing is that since they are illegal, they don't pay taxes, so they are not even helping the system at all. If they paid taxes, then perhaps the state could recover some money to cover these visits. It really wouldn't matter in our town, though, because the medcaid payments are so low and denied so often that the hospital is going to close regardless.

Also, our schools are getting over-crowded. It's a fact that immigrant families typically have more kids than the average family here. Where is the money for education supposed to come from? Most illegals rent an apartment (since you can get caught doing the paperwork to buy a house); that means they don't pay a dime of property tax. Even if some of them do buy a house, what is the property tax on a $100,000 house divided by 4-5 kids? Maybe $50 a year? How much does that contribute to a teacher's wages?

Illegal immagrants have done so much for this country that it is unreasonable to send them back and they should be given rights like everyone else. The first advantage they provide is that they do the work that no one else is willing to do in America, which helps fuel our economy. Another issue is that if we kick them out, that will bring about the demise of social security even faster then estimated before. Illegal immigrants provide $7 Billion to social security but get none of the payout, and they are perhaps the only thing keeping social security together these days. so in closing we should grant immigrants full rights and not send them home. But I do believe that we should have an open but secure border policy. We shouldn't make people jump through all these hoops just to come here...we should do a background check on them and make sure they have a way to sustain themselves when they get here, but other than that we should let anyone who wants to come here in to this country.

Well now everyone, we do have to remember this is a land of equal opportunity and freedom, so, we have to be nice at somepoint but....Put yourself in their shoes for a minute, their coming over here because their government sucks and ours is a little better, and they just want to raise their families and make a living, hence the fact that you see them working, selling fruits or flowers, doing whatever they must to bring home a few dollars and some food for the wives and children...would you not do the same, everyone?

Now as far as the walkouts that were happening at school, i find that a bit ironic that they come here also for better education, and by all means we give it to them, yet they wanna walk out of school because of things they dont even understand because they have a lack of knowledge, yet they complain when we dont help them.

Well, we'd help you if you let us.....

You get what im trying to say? It's a two way street, maybe some deserve to go back, maybe some dont...the world may never know...

This is a touchy topic. I do not currently hold either side of this issue but think of this from two both points of view: If you are a Mexican, Cuban, etc., who makes little to nothing for the food and shelter you need, wouldn't you look at the United States not only as a free country but a wage which is many times what they can make in their own country. Now on the other side, in America, our schools, hospitals, and neighborhoods are being crowded by people who don't pay taxes or give anything to the country, yet they expect to have the same rights as legal citizens. If anyone can find a plan for this, by all means give it!

Um, operative word being ILLEGAL. Seriously why are people even having this debate? We already have laws in place to deal with immigration. Fact is when you immigrate legally, you have to pay taxes. Sorry, but if you want to live in America, it's a whole package deal. It's not for people who want to come in and squat in our country and then call it theirs while the rest of us do it legally. If you're an immigrant and don't like the way things are going in this nation, then register to vote or run for office or do something. Oh wait, you have to be a citizen to do that.

End unfair U.S. immigration rules that have enabled employers to exploit illegal immigrants.

Provide blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants here in the country who have been exploited.

Unionize hundreds of thousands of immigrants who work in farming, hotels, construction, meat packing and many other industries.

The only reason a lot of employers want to hire a large number of illegal aliens is so they can exploit them.

The reasons why Reagan granted amnesty in 1986 are no different from today. Know your history.

Okay, here goes:

1) Close the border. Not because I don't like Mexicans, but because North Korea, China, Russia, Cuba, etc., all maintain embassies in Mexico and send their agents over our porous borders in regularity.

2) Instantly legalize all illegals. Force their employers to pay legal, livable wages. Employ taxes on their new, larger incomes (the same as every other citizen).

3) Allow those who change their mind to denounce their U.S. citizenship and return to Mexico (permanently), for a large deportation fee (in the vicinity of $3,500). If step one was taken seriously, the borders are closed now and this is entirely enforceable.

4) Install an immediate and very large tax on all income made in the U.S. and sent to Mexico. (around %33 will suffice).

5) Prison funding laws will have to be modified, because with any influx of foreign population comes new forms and higher levels of crime as social integration occurs.

Liberty? They have TOO much liberty, that's the whole point! And who's paying for that? Hmmmm? In any case, ALL illegal immigrants, regardless of country of origin, have broken the laws of this land .. should we reward law breakers? If so, I will refuse to pay my taxes ... hell, I might even get a tax return then .... if you can break one law and be rewarded for it, you can break them all, right??

It would hurt our economy and slow things down. They are doing some of the jobs Americans hate or wont do and they WANT to do them, and they don't expect more than what they can get. We hae become a spoiled country... do you really want to send them back?
