Start taking an antiinflammatory like ibuprofen before your cramps usually start (make sure to take it with food or at least a few crackers). Avoid sodium/salt because it makes cramps worse. For example, if you expect your period & cramps to start on Weds then start taking the meds Tues morning or so. Get them before they start b/c its much harder to get rid of them after! My DR also told me to take more than the recommended dose when they first come (just don't take more than recommended in a day). I usually have about 4 ibuprofen when the dosage is 2. That's the only way I can get rid of them.

drink more water, do a lot of stretching, and do some Kegels (they exercise the vagina and strengthen the muscles which also helps with cramps), try not to walk barefoot on cold surfaces, take Aleve

With some of my friends, they've also found that at certain weights their cramps worsen. If you are underweight or recently lost a lot, your cramps will often worsen. Try gaining a few (5-10 lbs) and the cramps will get better.

I know you said no birth control, but it really is the best way to end cramps. The only other thing I know to do is take aspirin and use a heating pad or take long hot baths. Good luck. I used to have bad cramps...I sympathize.

Go for long walks man. They work for me at least. Don't just stay in and cuddle it up. Take advil/tylenol and keep busy.
