There is no point and there is no bond. You are only going through the motions for convenience............

In answer to your initial question, all is not necessarily lost. A relationship is meant to be based on trust, a mutual understanding, a intangible bond and love. Just because you stop listening doesn't necessarily mean that you stopped caring and loving. If you listened intently to everything, regardless of importance, you'd go mad. Your brain should go on standby once in a while to conserve energy, i.e. shut down all non-essential systems.

If you are the one talking and you know you are being tuned out. Stop and try to find a different way of saying it. I was just in a situation regarding old pictures. I asked for over a year to have them removed to no avail. Finally I asked how they would feel if they saw me in old pictures. They finally understood the sentiment. Sometimes you may have to show it instead. Actions speak louder than words.

Making people listen to what you say is an art.First you must be good listner.what you talk should be interesting to them.Avoid talking about youself.Nobody wants to hear that.Find out common interests and talk about that.Lack of mutual interest make people uninterested in listening.Divert your talks to things of common interest. It is only you make you listenable to others.Find out where you have gone wrong.

If you arent ready to give up, then I think that you should ask your partner what the underlying reason is for constantly bringing up the same points, because there has to be another reason that they aren't able to effectively communicate with you.

That all depends on what you are expecting them to listen to. Try a different approach.Life is all about changing.
