I work 3rd shift myself. I have been doing it for years. If you haven't been working 3rd for a long period of time you should give your body awhile to adjust. I put myself on a schedule for sleeping. I work all night, get home at 7:30 am, stay up for a few hours or until I am tired and then go to sleep. If you have tried everything consider taking melatonin, it is a natural herb that helps you fall asleep. You can get it at GNC or Walmart and it is inexpensive. You could also try sleep aids from your doctor. Also try things like reading, watching TV, working out, anything to make you physically wore out. Also, don't sleep too much during the day. Get up 3 hours before you have to be to work. That way you will be more tired when you get home because you'll have been up for a long time. Good luck!

I work nights too and also suffer from this same problem. I tried all the things you did. I tried the fan, leaving the TV on, lots of goofy stuff. I guess we just get so tired we can't fall asleep. What I found that works best for me is Tylenol PM and reading. I didn't think that was a good idea at first because I didn't want to depend on Tylenol ( i think i spelled that wrong) but after about a week I got used to going to sleep during the day. Now I don't have a problem. Its something you have to make a habit. Kind of train your body to do.Hope this helps

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Have you tried Tylenol PM? I have the same problem and most times after 2 hours I wake up. I have tried Ambien (from my doctor). It regulates your sleeping pattern. I think they recommend it for 7 or 10 days straight. I found this to be great. No after effects or feeling groggy. The other thing I use (it's cheaper) is called "Sleep Aid" bought over the counter from Family Dollar stores. It costs $2.00. I believe it is benadryl. I take 1 pill and it relaxes me. Again, no after effect. It's terrible when you can't sleep.

Meditate and clear and calm your thoughts for the day ... turn off the television it does interfere with sleep... Tylenol pm ... works it is also good to start going to bed and waking at the same time.. as for food watch what you eat for the first 3 hours before bedtime... the hot milk myth wont really work drink it cold with a turkey sand which... if caffeine bothers you cut back or eliminate it complete.. a good work out or walk a few hours before bed is good.. sex or masturbation can help or a nice foot rub can help if all else fails maybe you might be over stressed and may need medication for it. good Zzz,s

You need to make yourself tired, Try to work out before you go to bed. Relax and drink some hot non decaffeinated tea, no sugar try to shut your mind down, forget any of the days activities, thoughts, bills, etc. just think about getting a nice restful sleep.
Try to sit and be still mind and body, I know it sounds silly but it works for me, I try to sleep but my mind seems to run away and won't shut down, I feel so tired and I need to sleep yet it won't let me, my doctor told me the above things to try as I don't want to medicate.... They help and I do know how to relax much better now so in the morning I feel refreshed. Good luck!

sex...is a great remedy for sleeplessness. On the real, try it. If you're not with anyone right now...try "self love". It relaxes you completely enabling you to go to sleep. Let me know how it works. :-)

I found that a relaxing bath, one of the PM pain relievers for the aches and soreness, and about two fingers of peach brandy works wonders.
