Abreva is absolutely the best on the market. Within a day or two you see noticeable results. For a cheaper solution, use Herpecin L at the first sign of a cold sore. That will hopefully prevent it from fully developing if you re-apply it often enough.

Abreva by far as far as over the counter. It has a drug that inhibits the virus from invading healthy tissue which speeds up healing time. If used before a full blown cold sore outbreak it can cut healing time in half (meaning 4 days instead of 8-10 days).

Garlic oil, but don't buy the stuff in the store...make your own and apply it with a cue tip. If you want to get rid of those cold sores for good, go on an extended juice fast followed by a live food diet.

To treat it when it has broken out- use colloidal silver which you can buy at any health food store.

To prevent it- Take lysine daily and double up on it if you feed a cold sore coming on. Change your eating habits to avoid foods which trigger cold sores. Also, I know someone who was "cured" of cold sores by taking Bach Flower Essences to release some old emotional issues, which made her vibrate at a higher frequency and she never gets them now.

I get cold sores or something very similiar if I'm out in the sun too long. I always use Campho-phenique. Works GREAT! Comes in a little tube, put it on 3/4 times a day and they dry up quickly.

Garlic oil or Vitamin E applied on the sore and Lysine taken orally.

Abreva is the only one that does anything. The rest are just for soothing.
