BUILD ONE!!! There are several British bike magazines featuring "classics" from the 60s and 70s. Start buying them (try Borders Books or Barnes & Noble) and watch the ads, or contact the magazine editors. There is a small manufacturer in the UK that still builds authorized replica chassis. All the fiberglass is available too. Then you go find a donor bike, or start haunting swap meets or "autojumbles."
You probably know Britbikes of that era are dead simple to work on. I recommend you buy a Clymer shop manual for Triumphs. That will tell you all about the engine and running gear, and if you feel up to it, follow the wiring diagram and make a wiring harness. Or order one. There is a thriving industry in the UK making parts for old bikes.
If you find any shops in the mid-Atlantic area that has a lot of Triumph parts, let me know. I have a couple of project bikes. Or if you find one more Metisse than you need, I'd like one meself. But I'm not going to start one from scratch, until my projects are done.
BTW, I have seen some interesting hybrids. There is a fellow around Washington, DC who came across an old Benelli (Montgomery Ward) 250 with a bad engine. He fit a 500 Triumph engine in, and it is beautiful.
Good luck.
