Yes. A baby who nurses from a mother who has been smoking marijuana or who has been breathing marijuana smoke will get THC through the milk. Not only that, but because of the baby's immature system, it will take up to 3 weeks for it to eliminated from the baby's body, and a urine test on the baby can show exposure for all that time.

While there is little evidence of physical harm due to this exposure (this according to Dr. Thomas Hale--the world's foremost expert on drugs and breastfeeding; see sources section below), there is a *huge* risk to the parents--of losing custody of the baby and being charged with child endangerment or neglect. For this reason alone, it is *not* smart to use illegal drugs.

Here is a question & answer from a doctor:
Marijuana use and breastfeeding

Josephine Djulus, MD Myla Moretti, MSC Gideon Koren, MD, FRCPC

ABSTRACT
QUESTION One of my breastfeeding patients is using marijuana to combat chronic pain. Is it safe for her to breastfeed?
ANSWER Lactating mothers should refrain from consuming cannabinoids. Advising mothers to discontinue breastfeeding if they cannot stop using cannabinoids must incorporate the known risks of formula feeding. Cannabinoid exposure through milk has not been shown to increase neonatal risk, but there are no appropriate studies of this. In every case, nursing babies should be closely monitored.

Breast milk is the best food for babies. It contains appropriate amounts of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins, and hormones as well as maternal antibodies. Psychologically, breastfeeding facilitates bonding between mother and child.

With chronic use, THC can accumulate in human breast milk to high concentrations.8 Because a baby’s brain is still forming, THC could theoretically affect brain development. It is also important to avoid environmental exposure to maternal marijuana smoke. Nursing mothers should be referred to appropriate services for counseling.

If you are smoking weed while breastfeeding....you are an idiot and shouldn't have clouded up the gene pool. If you haven't, then don't (and my apologies). Yes it can, yes it can have detrimental effects, and you are a parent now. Have a little more responsibility because it's not about you anymore.

yes, whatever you put into your body while nursing passes to your baby. Stop smoking pot and anything else you might be doing. Think about your baby's well-being. If you can't stop using drugs, then stop breast feeding, and get your baby on formula.

IIRC, THC collects in the body's fatty tissues which is what breasts are primarily made of, so yes.
