Earlier I asked

Why do most of the answers for YA come in the first 15 minutes after posting a question?

In light of the answers I have gotten, would it make since for YA to have questions expire while they are still at the top of the list? What would be an appropriate life span for a question and voting period?

I agree. Some times I get the best answer within the first hour. I don't want to wait 23 more hours to award them the 10 points? Plus I don't like giving people time to modify their answers after submitting it (even though I do this too).

According to the Yahoo! Answers tutorial, questions are open for seven (7) days. The asker has the option to extend this period of time. I believe the asker also has the option to shorten the period of time when he/she chooses the best answer (I have seen this happen).

If indeed most questions are answered in the first 15 minutes, then it's probably because people may tend to focus their attention on the most recently posted questions.

I don't think it would make sense for Y!A to have questions expire while they're still at the top of the list. Many people asking questions want good answers, and some people want to genuinely answer questions, so I believe that maintaining the current system enables both parties to retain that oppotunity.

You can vote for best answer to your own question after 24 hors and that will close the question.
