The car alarm from the dealer is much more expensive than the one at the car alarm store, but we don't want to carry two heavy remotes (the car alarm and the one which came with the car.) I was wondering if the car alarm bought at the store (not dealer) could be made so it operates from the key-chain remote which came with the car, so we would have only one key-chain remote.

No. But you might be able to get a programmable remote to operate them both. Hmmmm, good question. I am going to look into that too. Hope I have been helpful.
