Yes,, you wonder right. There are more baby boomers out there than any other age group. For the most part, they act younger than their parents did at their age. But I think that expression (50 is the new 30) is just wrong. People are just different at 50 than they were 50 years ago, and they're more likely not to cling to social stereotypes, but to behave the way they feel is right for them. I wonder... is 80 the new 60? Is 25 the new 15? Is pink the new black, or is that brown?

Improved health and increased lifespan make this possible. More opportunities are available because diseases like cholera and polio (at least in the West) that used to kill thousands now don't. Children born between 1945 and 1964 -- the most often considered definition of "baby boomer" -- proliferated after World War II and used many wartime advances in mostly peaceful applications. What I've cited below is not strictly my source, but it will help you gain a broader perspective.

Look at what has been considered middle age over the last 200 years. Now think of what the average life expectancy is now. Think of what that age will be when you are 70...people will probably be living to an age well over 100 by then and will be healthy into their 80's and 90's.

I believe the celebrities like Madonna are reminding women that its never okay to "let yourself go". Women see its possible to look sexy even in your 50's, so there is no valid reason to stop working out just cause you "feel old". We realize its not just how old you feel, but how young you feel. If you feel young and act young, you have mentors like Madonna to keep you going for your goals. I also believe so many women are moving on after divorces to astonishing careers and lives they didn't even realize were possible as a house wife. Oh and that dating young men trend doesn't hurt either :-)
