CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management. Let's say you have a database that stores data about what your customers bought for you. You look at the data and realize that many customers who bought product #478 also buy product #936 (although you may or may not think about those products as related). So you patch your POS terminal software so that it prints a coupon for product #936 (or displays a prompt for the sales person to suggest product #936) every time someone buys product #478. A good CRM package does all those things (and more) automatically.

CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management. CRM is about better understanding of customer’s behavior and needs, and developing and implementing business strategies and supporting technologies that close the gaps between an enterprise’s current and potential performance in customer acquisition, growth, and retention. Its center of attention is managing and optimizing customer life cycle and building proper relationship among company departments, sales forces, and customers which in turn helps increasing company productivity.
