I went to my hard drive (drive C:) and opened the "cookie" folder. There were a lot of "cookies" there, and some of them shouldn't be there. So, and I would prefer real computer technicians or something like that to answer this, can I delete them? And tell me what they are, too, please.

A cookie is a message given to a Web browser by a Web server. The browser stores the message in a text file. The message is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server.

The main purpose of cookies is to identify users and possibly prepare customized Web pages for them. When you enter a Web site using cookies, you may be asked to fill out a form providing such information as your name and interests. This information is packaged into a cookie and sent to your Web browser which stores it for later use. The next time you go to the same Web site, your browser will send the cookie to the Web server. The server can use this information to present you with custom Web pages. So, for example, instead of seeing just a generic welcome page you might see a welcome page with your name on it.

It will not mess up your computer if you delete your cookies. The worst possible thing it will do is make you re-enter some information on a website you have been to before on a form (like your name and address).

If you are using Internet Explorer, click on Tools, Internet Options and it will open a small window. Click the "Delete Cookies" button.

Well, a cookie is a small file that is downloaded to your computer to help websites keep track of logins, session settings and other information. That statement assumes that they aren't abusive cookies related to other annoying scripts. It shouldn't mess up your computer, but it could mess up a login to a favorite web site, access to restricted content or settings and preferences on some sites. The best idea, IMHO, is to look at the text/name of each cookie. Usually they aren't too hard to find some plain text that will clue you in to which site they are associated with. Delete those that you don't login to, have special settings on or downright don't care about. Some will be just a jumble of stuff with no plain text in sight. Those I'd move to a temporary folder rather than delete, or even just leave alone. Another milder way to get rid of cookies is to download a freeware cookie guard or remover. They track cookies, let you decide as you get them what to allow, keep and dump. Most cookies have an expiration date, so simply beginning to use one of these programs now will eventually alleviate the problem since they expire and don't get to come back. I hope this helps you out.

The name cookie derives from UNIX objects called magic cookies. These are tokens that are attached to a user or program and change depending on the areas entered by the user or program.

The answer to your question is no.

A cookie is something you will get when visiting a website like yahoo. The cookie is a small file placed on your computer to identify you. They are used for tracking purposes. For example, when you login to yahoo you put in your user ID and password. Now that you are logged in a cookie sits on your computer and tells yahoo that you are logged in. If you were to delete the cookie you would have to login again, and any information that may have been stored in the cookie, such as your username/password, would have to be retyped.

The worst that will happen if you delete all your cookies is that some websites you routinely goto would not recognize you and would require you to login again.

Cookies are temporary files which are stored on your pc as you login to websites which use cookies. If cookies are not present on your system you might be asked about your information like name, password etc time to time, cookies help in avoiding this. Deleting cookie will not harm your in any way but can make some sites open slow..as when some specific sites are opened they generally create cookie in your local system. You can go ahead and delete all the cookies.
Hope it helps you...

A cookie is a small, eletronic file that is downloaded into your web browser to identify it to a specific web page. Deleting it will not mess up your computer. But it will mean that any web site that needs to remember you (for shopping cart, account login, etc.) will not remember you. However, that is not a problem as you can simply log in again and you're good to go.

A cookie is simply a bit of code left by a web server. It won't mess up your PC to delete them, just free up space.

Cookies do two things: they keep passwords and log-in info and may keep other info, but not much.

If you delete all cookies, you will have to remember all your log-in info or have it sent to you each time you log-in. I just delete any cookie that is not for a website I want or need to remember the log-in info for, or don't want them keeping track of how many times I visit them.
