It depends. I find that more you add, the more you need. So ur best bet? if it seem slow, try tweeking the OS. Check the minimum total requirement for the programs you run simultaneously. Twice the amount should be fine.
As someone said earlier, games need lot of mem. So do viruses, spywares and automatic updates.

Noooooo. it particularly is with reference to the 2nd smallest volume of RAM you will get. 1gb would be adequate for working XP, and a minimum of 2gb once you're working Vista. the regular of the memory additionally concerns. There are no longer any real super modules of 256mb RAM, yet some are greater powerful than others. for example: a 2gb module of RAM is worse than a 2gb module with warmth spreaders and a greater suitable clock cost, yet often you will purely choose this once you would be employing memory huge courses.

Not really, most of the modern applications require a little more. That amount of RAM is baseline for most modern games and will probably not be supported by the future's applications with more memory required.

It is barely over the minimum needed to even boot up Windows. It would run, but the laptop will be slow, and hang often. You want to a least double, if not quadruple that amount (512 or 1gig)

No, it's probably about average. Mine only has 256 and it's what most programs require, the absolute minimum.
