I suppose it depends on what you define as work. I'm a schoolteacher, and I guess you could say I have the summer off, but I still have to work on cleaning my apartment, doing laundry, washing dishes, etc.
I will never forget my first job out of college where, in one year, I worked in a hotel on Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Day, New Year's Eve and Day, and Memorial Day. The days I typically had off were Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday, so I had to make the best of it. This is what makes the service industries so difficult. (anything from medicine to sales to food/hospitality to education)
I realize this doesn't help your present situation, but take heart in the fact that you have the ability to choose to have a good day at work or to resent having to work.
...and remember, if it was always fun to go to work, then it wouldn't be called work...

I am working today and tomorrow. 12 hour shifts. I do get Monday off and then I rotate to my 3 Night shifts.
So I am pretty much sitting here in this room with no windows with most of the lights off watching screens and pushing buttons so we can put gas in our cars.
I am a refinery operator and I make gasoline.
