I nuke a little bowl of lemon juice until boiling then wipe out the microwave with a sponge. The steam from the juice loosens any stuck on food debris and leaves a nice lemony smell.

An easy way to clean and deodorize your microwave is to put half a cup of water in a microwave proof dish with one tablespoon of baking soda in the microwave. Cook on high for one minute. The steam from the water loosens any thing that doesn't belong there and makes it easy to wipe away. The baking soda absorbs odors.

EasyOff makes a really good cleaner. It comes in a plastic envelope. You place it in the microwave, zap it for a few until it pops. Leave it in the microwave for a while (the scented steam softens gunk and deodorizes), then take out the hot wipe that was in the package and wipe up the mess.

Lean it first.
Put a diluted soluition of bleach and water in a bowl.
Turn on the microwave and heat the bowl just before boiling.
This gets the vapors through the microwave to kill the mold inside.
Keeping it cleean will help
