I'm just curious what I'll come across in the house or in the backyard. I have an 11 year old daughter and a small Corgi dog.

For bugs it will range from ants to mosquito's. We also have ticks and fleas but they are almost everywhere. There are also lots of non dangerous bugs like ladybugs etc..
We do have some snakes here in NC the only dangerous one that I know of is copperheads. I have attached a link that discusses all the snakes here in NC. I have lived here since 97 close to some woods and have only seen 2 snakes, both corn snakes.

It is nice there and you will rarely see a snake.
Misquitos are the biggest problem but it is very nice there.
