Shakira use to be something special to me. An artist like never before. I liked her columbian and spanish accent until she was destroyed by such a popular song across america. I dont have anything against americans I just think she was better off in front of more of the "hispanic crowd". No one really payed much attention to her until this american-like song came out. Well, I think the song is bogus and she should stick with more songs of her culture. She had to fight to be accepted to the "american taste". I dont know any americans who paid much attention to the song La Tortura. Now that this song is out, more people are starting to recognize her. I just wanted to say how ignorant americans are and dont take time to listen to song that are non-english sometimes. It makes me mad.....

Okay first off I am an American and I speak french. I love learning about all different cultures. I think that it is important for everyone to learn about other cultures whether through speaking the language, eating the food, or listening to music. I have nothing against Hispanics and I just thought that you should know that. Secondly, I understand that you're mad because it took until her more "hip-hop" based song Hips don't Lie for her to be recognized in the states. Honestly though you have to understand that she decided to come to America to perform, so she ultimately knew that she'd have to sing songs like that to make sales and what if Shakira wanted to make Hips don't Lie because she wanted something new??? Maybe it's up to her not you. I honestly do understand why you believe that Americans are ignorant because half of us are, but they're also many Hispanics here who are considered Americans. Do you find them ignorant? They might like the song Hips don't Lie just as well. So really I do think that people should embrace their culture, but they shouldn't be forced to only stick to that culture. They should be entitled to try different things. Well I hope this answers your question.♥

It's funny that you say this song is American when it isn't. In the song, Shakira not only honors colombia but also uses a sample of a salsa song in it. This song is more latin american than Jennifer Lopez will ever be. I don't think Americans are ignorant for liking this song, they are smart for listening to such an amazing and talented artist like Shakira. I love that she crossed over. She is hotter than ever before, without forgetting her roots.

well people r starting 2 like all kinds of music no matter whos singing or rapping it. there r all kinds of cultural music out there & everyone has different types of music that like or dont like. Hell, at first I didnt like spanish music but now that I do I have gotten used 2 it & Im starting 2 understand it a whole lot better than I did B4. sometimes I listen it & sometimes I dont, nobody says that u have 2 listen 2 particular music all day, ther r others out there besides this one.
Well if here music is making u mad then all u have 2 do is change the radio station & listen 2 something else, nobody is forcing u or making listen her music either, u have a choice 2 either listen 2 it or not so that is up 2 u 2 decide.

Well, we might be ignorant but everyone wants many of the things we have here. Including our money and popularity when it comes to popularizing a song. Also, it seems that you are upset that Americans or others didn't like her music when it was not Americanized, but yet when it becomes Americanized you don't like it for that reason alone. Sounds to me that you are quite ignorant yourself. I won't lie to you, I rarely if EVER listen to a song not in Englishm but I don't speak very good spanish or any other language, nor is my favorite music (R&B/Hip-hip) usually done in other languages. If my favorite artitst went to make spanish song I wouldn't like them any less. Maybe they are trying to show how well-rounded or open they are to other cultures. I think it is a good thing when people try to reach other cultures or markets.

I have always liked her music even before she became famous in America. I am hispanic and I listen to all kinds of music...The only thing is that the radio stations pick out about 3 songs and play them over and over and over and over ooh! did I mention over..ahahh but it's true and they ruin a good song because you get sick of hearing it.And NO not Americans are ignorant because not everyone knows more than one language(by understanding La Tortura). If you live in America who said you have to know alot of languages to understand if you like something or not? You really shouldn't say offensive terms towards Americans...your bond to get hate feedback.

People probably like the song because They like the lyrics or the beat. Honestly I like the song too because I like the way she sings that song and I like the lyrics what you were asking is your opinion everybody has an opinion about everything, this is even my opinion what I am saying is not factual, what you said is not factual either. Also you said no one paid attention to her before that song came out well thats probably why she did come out with that song. But why are you worried about her shes not doing anything to you . All she is doing is making music and doing her thang. So dont hate the playa hate the game.
