My aunt's looking for a small laptop, preferably one under 5lbs, with a built-in webcam and microphone for chat purposes. She likes the MacBook but has never used Mac before and finds the MacBook a bit pricey.

What other laptops do you suggest? She wants at least a 40gb, preferably 60gb, hard drive. In terms of price, something $1000 or less.

Check out the Acer Aspire 5672. They run around $1,000 to $1,100. They work, has 120GB of Hard Drive Space, 1GB of RAM, 1.6GHz Duo Core Intel Centrino, built in Webcam, microphone, wifi, dvd burner. For the price I don't think it can be beat. I own one and I only have 3 flaws...... battery life only lasts 3 hours, it gets pretty hot around the touchpad, and it weighs around 7 pounds. Oh yea and the webcam only works good with flourescent lights or true sunlight.

I would also suggest buying a 700 laptop, like a Celeron based laptop and buy a usb webcam for laptops. Those have worked a whole lot better than any built in webcam I have used except for the MacBooks. My sister bought a HP for $650 at Best Buy and since all she does is goes online and do Word Documents, its fast enough for her.

Dell quite often has coupons out there for you to 'build your own' laptop, and get it fairly inexpensive. You might want to check it out. I got my $3000 laptop for $1500 that way.

There are coupons going on right now, but if she isn't yet ready to buy, they do come out every 2 or 3 weeks.

Well, I don't think u can find anything like this for a cheap price. U can buy a second handed one, or a refurbished one. I recomend the second.
