This is a vicious circle. Child turns up volume of TV and wants it at that level, mother says too loud. Child says I can't hear. Mother is worried child can't hear. Turns up volume. With time child will go deaf and dumb from watching too much loud TV.
You can stop this.
Let your child watch one program a day, only one program and try to wean the kid off the TV and do something more constructive, like read a book or draw a picture.....

Have the child's hearing checked. Sitting to close to the TV with the volume turned up will damage the hearing even farther plus being very close to the TV could damage the child's eyes as well.

I guess that could be a problem or, sometimes certain programs have it so low in the station you have to turn it up so when a commercial comes on it's loud on purpose. The only way to be sure is to take the child to get a hearing test.

Hello,
Many kid's sit in front of the TV and develop hearing loss at an early age. Please do not allow him/her to turn up the volume. Hearing loss at an early age can be a crutch as people age. Device's like I-Pods are very bad for small kid's. On a more delicate note, many kid's turn up the volume on TV and Radio and CD's to drown out the noise of family bickering....... PEACE, TJ

How old is the child and can they explain the difference between hearing and listening? I'd get his hearing checked, just to be sure. If they're ok, I'd consider the possibility that he has attention difficulties and is just trying to tune out the other sounds in the house.

A hearing test would be in order. Check with your doctor, also public schools and some medical clinics frequently have free hearing tests.

I think the reason children do that is because they want to "shut out" the outside world from themselves rather than not hearing it.

take him to the Dr he will then do some simple tests and if he thinks something is wrong he will send him to the hospital for a proper hearing test .

Please have his/her hearing checked. It may be because they want to shut you out but check it out to be sure. They sometimes like to get completely involved in what they are doing/seeing. Sometimes their imagination gets the better of them and they believe that they are one of the characters in the set. Thank you for your question.
