England is the country of which London is the capital.

Britain is England and Wales.

Great Britain is England, Wales and Scotland.

United Kingdom is England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Great britain is an island comprising of Wales, Scotland and England.Hence England is a part of Great Britian. And both are part of United Kingdom.

Great britain or Britain for short is comprimised of England , Scotland and Wales, 3 differnt countries. England and Britain are not the same thing. Great bitain is a political term and only used in refrence when referring to the three countries together.

Just the names really. England is the name of the island. Great Britain is a holdover name from the height of the British Empire. I might be incorrect, but it is my belief that Great Britain actually refers to England, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
