If your a teen: Have you ever walked into the mall and gone to a store and noticed one of the employees following you?
If your an adult: Have you ever seen the previous happen or perhaps done it your self?

Why is this? And is it fair to teens, even those who have never done wrong?

no its never fair, but as long as you know your there for honestly, but as an adult who's black it happens all the time. the next time your in a store and this happens turn around to clerk and ask her or him can you help them and kindly let them know that you notice that they've been following you, and you see this as a form of harrassment

Sorry, I can't say that has ever happened to me when I was a teen and I can't say I've noticed it as an adult either.

Maybe it's what you're wearing that give store employees suspicions you're there to do more than shop?

Sorry, you are being profiled because that is their biggest shoplifting group. If you're not doing anything wrong, just ignore it. If you feel you have to do something, engage the following adult in pleasant conversation. Smile, ask how they're doing and go on your way. That will let them realize you have honorable intentions. A potential shoplifter is not going to go out of his way to get noticed.

ehehe

I get followed around stores sometimes.

Once I was even bumrushed outside a macys outlet by 3 police cars and 4 plainclothed cops.

Hands on head and frisked aggressively for "suspicion of shoplifting."

I had just returned from serving in the middle east 2 days earlier and wanted to buy something nice to wear but couldnt find something to fit.

The cops attitudes were shi.tty. I wanted to kill someone.

P.S. It was funny because instictively I started to take cover and was fumbling for my M16.

If all the teens would stop stealing stuff, then none of you would get followed. However it's not called stereotyping, you're paranoid unless you've been approached and flat out told, "Hey you teen, I'm stereotyping you!".

I never experienced that as a teen and now that I'm an adult, I've never seen it. Maybe it's just the area you live in.

I am 22 now, and here is my opinion. Our generation is...I hate to say it...full of bad seeds. Teens think they can get away with a lot, and they try very hard to push the envelope. Live with it. It is up to you to break the mold. If you have nothing to feel guilty about, than certain things shouldn't bother you.

No its not fair but it does happen. everyone has been stereotyped and been guilty of stereotyping at one time or another. Just don't let it bother you. You know who you are and if your not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.

Happens all the time. I'm 19 now though, but I remember it always happening. I even look and watch teens that look suspicious, even if I'm not working lol. It sucks to be sterotyped, but people don't know who does stuff and who doesn't, so they watch all of them closely.

Adults are stupid sometimes. They sterotype people just so that they can justify judging them before they know them. They make judgements about them, not remembering what it was like to be their age. It's not fair, but it is more convenient for them because then they don't have to actually take time to get to know people before they judge them.

Isn't it sad that some disrespectful teens have given the entire generation an ugly mark on their report card????
