Annulment means the marriage didn't exist! No child support etc. Divorce means you were married but now want to live apart (for w/e reason) Alimony etc. applies!

An annulment makes the marriage nul and void. As if it never happened. A divorce means you just decided to break off the marriage contract.

Annulment = undoing the marriage = no obligations
Divorce = Possible obligations on Mortgage, credit cards, other loan obligations.

The big difference is you have to prove a marriage invalid in an anullment. I. E. The inability to bear children, emotional or mentally unstable or incapable or even if one partner is gay.

Some states also impose time limitations and will not allow an anullment if the marriage was consumated

Its cheaper and negotiated ahead of time. Less court time.
