Yes you can,prepare the surface with white gesso,at this stage you can sand it back lightly for a smooth surface or you can apply another layer to build up a texture or even incise into it to give an underlying surface----have fun,

art has moved waaay beyond mere canvas. put oil paint on whatever the heck you want to. heck, mix it with ice cream. dont worry about preparing anything. all you need these days is a good artists statement.
