Sterling. But before decimalisation in 1971, it was a little different. There were 12 d (old pence) to a shilling, and 20 shillings to the pound. So a pound was 240 d. There was also the 1/2 d (ha'penny), the farthing 1/4 d, the sixpence, which was half a shilling, the threepence, the guinea (21 shillings) and it gets madder from there. Paper money was on huge banknotes that you had to fold about 8 times to get in your wallet. And you noted it differently, so 2 shillings and sixpence was written 2'6d or 2s6d, or 2' 6. And you'd say, 'two and six.'

Well....the 1900's also includes the late 1900's, 1980 etc.......we still had the pound!
Though coins were worth different amounts, there were also £1 notes, shillings, farthings, Ha'pennies (Half a pence) and a few other coins.
