Catch a Cricket. They can eat vegetables, cereal(non-sugarded), dog food. Put a few sticks and leaves in for them to hide under. If you feed them alot of dry stuff, you may need to put in a little water. Not too much or too deep, they could drown.
Crickets are good luck and if they are happy, they will sing for you.
To find a cricket wait until it's dark when you can hear them outside. Try to follow the noise they make to the area they are, then look under the rocks and bushes.
You could keep a Grasshopper too, the same way with the same foods. It might be easier to find during the day.
Praying Mantis could be fun too. You would have to catch other live bugs for it to eat though.
