i have a poster that my dad got when he was like in his late teens or early 20's i was wondering how i could ask about how much it was worth

Not knowing exactly which poster it is, you might want to check this E-Bay site to see if someone is selling a similar one...and see what kind of action it's getting (there's over 300 entries)

Is it like, for actual? you may want to do something like those sweet WW2 recruiter posters and make it say "connect the military, change right into a guy!" Or something similar. look on the hyperlink lower than and use it as a template.
