yes unfortunately we still are!

1. in Pakistan - honour killing is still practiced because too much importance is given to "group right" instead of "individual right"
let me explain: the group has collective rights over everyone, so if you stray from the rules of the pack, you are viewed as a disgrace. and thus, its justified to kill you in the name of returning the honour back to the family
this is a link to demonstrate how much these people hold true to their culture that even this sort of thing can happen in developed countries. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5128206.stm?ls

2. dowry related violence in india, we women are burnt alive(and conveniently explained as "kitchen accident" by their husbands) if our families do not submit to the groom's demands. and by dowry, i do not mean demands at the time of marriage. its those additional demands AFTER the wedding! they continue killing their wives until they find one that can comply with their demands.

3.in the middle east, when a woman cry rape, she will need at least 3 religious men who have witnessed the rape to testify for her(kindda like vouching for her credibility). otherwise, it'll be deemed as unmerituous and she will be stoned to death.
so my question is: if there were 3 guys there in the 1st place, do you think she'd be raped>??? and for crying out loud! this guy is raping her, do you think he'd ask for witnesses to be present for the benefit of his victim?! (i mean how dumb can people be sometimes?)

4. in china, due to the population control ruling from the govt, most chinese are aborting female babies and keeping only male babies.

this demonstrates how much we females are worth all over the world. hope this gives you an idea and gives you an answer to better your understanding on the topic.

cheers mate.

Sadly, yes, women are still consider "second class citizens" to men.

It is so bad that in some Middle East Muslim countries women are being beheaded for not wearing a veil, going to work, and for just being a woman. It's sad really.

God is conceived as HE in every religion like Christianity,Hinduism, Islam,Buddhism etc . Woman after discovery of this God always treated women as second to men. This reversed the reality of existence.Having exploited the woman earth too was not spared.
Earth too is treated like a woman .Till such time a new God is discovered women on earth will be treated as 2nd class citizens. Some cultures do provide some liberties to women but that does not mean that women are treated equal to men .A woman only can provide the true meaning of spiritual love to the new born who has no religion.Meaning of God truly is through a love bond. It is the end of mankind on earth. Earth and women in natural excellence will always be superior but treated as second class due to their submissive and divine nature .Why divide the world as third world etc. as far as truth about women-is concerned.

It depends. It is relative and something which should not be generalised.

In Some Third world Countries like India, Pakistan Bangladesh , Srilanka they have held Posts of Prime ministers and Presidents. Something yet a dream in countries like USA.

And yes In these countries Women had property rights before USA women.

Most number of crime against women are still in USA.

yooperpooper has a good point, even if a strange name. Some cultures think women are better than men (the whole miracle of birth thing), and some cultures barely consider women to BE citizens, if at all.
