Fools gold is really a crystal called pyrite. It is harder, less dense, and more brittle than real gold. It is a brassy gold color, usually squarish in shape but can also be 8-sided or nodular shaped, has fine ridges in it, if you hit it with steel it causes a spark, and it is the leading source of sulfur. If you find fools gold, real gold or copper may be nearby, as they do tend to be found in the same vicinity.
Real gold is softer than fools gold, comes in irregular nuggets or grains, shiny, yellow, and dense.

Real gold is Non-tarnishing, Durable, Dense atomic structure, Extremely heavy, Malleable & Ductile. Fools gold is similar in appearance to real gold, but it consists mainly of sulfur.
Scratch the nugget in question on the back of a white ceramic tile:Fool's Gold will leave a greenish-black streak & Real Gold will leave a golden-yellow streak.

Real gold is a precious metal we mine and use to make jewelry, gold bars, etc.It was also used as money for many centuries.
Fools gold is a nickname for Pyrite, another metal that looks similar to gold (and may contain some gold as well).

You must be a fool to ask this. Well, the difference is in its purity. A real gold is pure than a fools gold, isn't it?

The chemical composition.... fools gold is not gold even though it looks like it... its actually a compound call pyrite. Pyrite is composed of iron, tin, copper, and many other elements making that gold luster. Gold on the other hand is elemental gold. It only consist of gold atoms

It is like fool's gold is our entrenched "two-party" political system and the real gold is what the rest of the coalition-building western societies have. The difference between "playing at democracy" (pretending) and what REAL representative politics is capable of solving... Britian's House of Commons doesn't waste the public's legislative time with absurd petty issues like "Flag-burning: right or wrong?" Who gives a royal flippin' fart! Get to what matters!

Fool's gold is a common term for iron pyrites, chemically iron sulfide, whose crystals can have a golden appearance. Since both iron and sulfur are plentiful, the mineral has no commercial value.

"Fool's Gold" is pyrite. It does not have the same molecular weight or density as real gold.
