• Simply put, Brainfreeze occurs when the Slurpee (or anything cold) touches the roof of your mouth, the collection of nerves in the roof of your mouth (called the spheno-palantine ganglion) go into a spasm (a spasm is like a cramp). These nerves tell the brain blood vessels to get bigger or "dilate". When our brain's blood vessels get big, we get headaches.

Brainfreeze occurs when the cold icecream touches the roof of your mouth, the collection of nerves in the roof of your mouth (called the spheno-palantine ganglion) go into a spasm (a spasm is like a cramp). These nerves are connected to the brain's blood vessels and not any other - their reaction is to get bigger (dilate) when these nerves cramp. When our brain's blood vessels get big, we get headaches.
So, the best way to avoid getting brainfreeze is to keep the cold thing from touching the roof of your mouth.

When cold stuff (like popsicles, ice cream or slushies) touches the roof of your mouth it can set off a nerve reaction (in the spheno-palantine ganglion, to be precise), that causes the blood vessels in your brain to swell. When the blood vessels swell, you get a headache. The headache usually lasts less than a minute. Mystery solved.

Well, mr. shazaam, I will tell you why. When you drink something cold, very cold, it comes in contact with the roof of your mouth. It sends the nerves there into a little spasm frenzy, and triggers the dilation of the blood vessels in your brain. When this happens, the result is an acute little headache. Check out Wikipedia for more in-depth explanation.

What are you talking about? when you eat ice-cream the part that freezes is the TONGUE, not the brain...
You see, some people don't even have a brain (like me)...how would it be possible for those people to get a "brain freeze"????
