Why do some Americans insist that soccer's gay when soccer players generally get more women than they do?

Most people who say they don't like it, on this website at least, attempt to argue that it's "gay." The thing is, I'm pretty sure that most soccer players get more women than anyone who says that, probably in part because homophobes who insist that other things/people are gay are usually homosexual themselves...

And trust me, soccer players get sexy, exotic, foreign women; models from Brazil, in many cases.

I mean, if you're going to argue against the sport, maybe you should try arguing against its athletic merit, though it would be a pretty poor argument that is easy to argue against.

Or maybe I'm off and they actually love the sport and wish it was gay so they could take part....?

I can see the baseball thing... men holding big sticks and swatting them at balls that fly towards their face... :)

Just for the record, I'm American and I love both baseball and soccer.

Because to be honest with you people have a tendency of downing something that they don't understand. In this case it is soccer. For a long time they used to say that baseball was for gays too and then there was basketball and the reason to this is because if you don't understand then what else would you say except that it is gay.

The majority of all people that say that is of the non educated breed and they don't want to take the time to try to understand something new. Up until recently I didn't like soccer and it was for my own prejudiced reasons but until I seen how exciting the game really can be I started to become interested in it. One other thing my youngest son wants to play soccer so I guess I better start getting interested huh? LOL!

But seriously people like that who say things that are out there they are the ones that are truly uneducated and with out reasoning. So for those you have to just let them be.

Reasons I don't like soccer:
(1)I don't understand the metric system so I hate hearing about how some guy kicked the ball 10 meters or that Beckham weighs 12 stones or whatever other weirdo measures they have.
(2)The goalie wears a different color in every game, and its a different color than everyone else so you can never tell who the hell is the goalie.
(3)Similar to number 2, the referee always wears a different color shirt so you can never tell who is the ref, who is the goalie and who is on which team.
(4)Obscure countries like the Czech Repulic need their contry name written on their jersey someplace, because their colors look like they are playing for Kentucky Fried Chicken.
(5)That worthless clock! This is the 21st century! Stop the clock when the ball is out of bounds! No more faked injuries when you are ahead! No more arbitrary refs adding time and neither team knows for sure how much will be added! We have computers now!

I think it's a behavior. In Italy we aren't so open-minded, and to say to someone "gay" is a dangerous act.
Of course, football is the first sport we play and we watch to play. In the backyards, in the streets, gardens, beach, schools. I guess it's the easy game to play. It doesn't need any equipment, only a ball. You can easily create posts simply putting on the ground your clothes as jackets, or rocks, or branches, school bags and so on. Children who doesn't like football will be watched with grim eyes. Children who openly like other unusual sports as basket or volley AND refuse to play football are deserved bad jokes, tricks, emargination. Of course, they're easily spotted as gays because they're playing girly sports.
When you reach an adult age, everyone can easily spots 'girly sports players' aren't gay or weaklings. And a basket champion has money, celebrity and woman as a football champ do.
I guess 'americans' you are speaking are USA people. They rules everywhere (we all are drinking coke, we all are wearing silly baseball caps, we all have tried the awful american fast food hamburger and hot-dog), but they definitively fails in sports: the whole world loves football, and they sucks in this sport. In the backyards and streets they play basket and their other own sports, so they blame other sports. In the USA female football has reach the best world level. So I think this is simply their way to see football. A gay's sports. Exactly as we thoght aboaut american sports.

I must confess I am one of those 2.5 million american house holds that have been watching the world cup... I do enjoy soccer, BUT I also understand why the rest of the united states dosen't...


the reasons we don't like soccer

1. The main reason many americans are turned off by soccer and refer to it as "GAY" is because of the flopping. From a young age we're taught that if we fall down you get right back up. In american sports as youngsters we're told to just suck it up, and while watching a soccer match to see someone just fall for no apparent reason, well it just pisses us off! Flopping is a part of basketball which is a popular american sport, but you also know that flop in basketball is usually followed by a retaliation in the form of maybe an elbow or a forearm next trip down the court, besides the majority of the floppers are foreign players!

2. slow SLOW... and often boring is another reason, yes it's exciting sometimes, but for the majority of the time it's just buildup of emotions, and often those emotions never get to be released... which brings me to the next reason...

3. the buildup of emotion for nothing... THE TIE... yes it does get to americans that these games can end in a tie... and for all the ppl that say well so does hockey, if you haven't noticed hockey is NOT, I repeat NOT popular in the united states... the ratings for hocky are right arount 3 million households just like soccer.

3. FOOTBALL FOOTBALL FOOTBALL... football just appeals to us. It's gritty it's rough it's tough. Our hatred of the flop is lost when watching football because there is no penalty for knocking a players head off and if during a game someone trash talks and pisses you off you don't have to worry bout a red card, you remember the guys number and when you see your chance you knock him out. Plus football is much more strategic than soccer. Many people here look as football as the last main man to man sport thas why we love it. The only other sport thas man to man is boxing, but cheating and match fixing is why that sport isn't the biggest sport in america.

Why we SUCK at soccer

1. Americans suck at soccer because we cannot flop and fake falling. If u ever get a chance to see a MLS game it'll prove that point. They had a game on today (which is a rare thing) but the game was stopped maybe a handful of times because of fouls, there was one set piece ONE set piece the whole game. Americans just refuse to play hurt where as in any given world cup game, half of the time is spent pickin up a player off the ground and setting the ball.

2. Yes we suck, but we suck by choice... We choose not to play soccer for all the above mentioned reasons... instead we devote our skills to other sports... ok look at it this way... say u take the best 25 pure athletes in brazil, italy, germany etc. NEARLY ALL of those athletes will be soccer players... now come to the u.s. the best 25 athletes in the U.S. NONE would be soccer players... I mean seriously if we cared about soccer here we would undoubtedly be the best team in the world year end year out... take a few of the best american athletes as examples ... say from a young age these athletes were playing soccer rather than there respective sports ... 1. JUSTIN GATLIN... this is the fastest man in the world EVER world record holder, put him as a forward and just send the ball over the top, who could stop that? how about KOBE BRYANT or TERREL OWENS ... they're 6'5 and up and are well well conditioned, plus they can jump... just put them in the box and feed them headers all day long... who can stop that? so yeah like I said if the majority of the athletes in this country played soccer rather than other sports, as in other countries then we would dominate.

Because they don't know what they are talking about. I think Football (the real one , the one you actually play with your foot) is the best sport in the world for real men and even women can enjoy it.

A bunch of dumbass I would say. They call the game you play with your hand football (which by the way is a sissy form of Rugby). and the game you play with your foot soccer. They are just jealous cause the rest of the world does not consider any of their sissy accommodating games worth watching.
