I have correctly connected the wire for the fan and the lighting fixture, but the directions say that it must be grounded...and there is a green wire for the ground, but I have no wire to connect it to. Can I ground it on the metal support?

Attaching the ground wire to the metal box is a waste of time in house wiring. The ground needs somplace to go. If the metal box is not grounded, your ground wire will not do anything.

You need to run a ground wire to your electrical panel. I recommend hiring a licensed electrician for this. Grounding is extremely important and if done improperly could result in breakers not tripping and possibly a fire.

I would need more information to tell you how to do this properly. We have a blog where we provide DIY electrical wiring help. If you need further assistance please post the information to our blog or email us.
