First, don't call him names and don't blame him for this, because he might not even realise that he's doing it (he's not being rude or anything to this effect) and if he knows he doesn't know what to do about it. Second, it might be a sign of a serious problem meaning either his air-way is blocked or there's an underlying health problem--anything from "as simple as" the loss of sleep to stress.
Does he smoke or drink?
If *yes* on either on or both, try and help him to quit.
If *not*, there's a simple little solution to this and you don't even have to go to a physician for this--it'll cost more and the physician almost always ends up prescribing drugs which can have a different reaction from what you hoped to achieve. Be supportive of him and let him know that you're there for him no matter what. Don't even think of leaving him, this "problem" is not even classified as a "reason" for this act, because it can be worked out in a matter of 1 week :)
Natural solution to the problem :) ...
Just let him know to let the tip of his tongue rest on TOP of his jaw (the spot behind the front teeth where the cleft palate is rising, or about 1cm behind the teeth) and not on the bottom. Let him do this every time he is about to fall asleep and try and keep the tip of the tongue in the same spot, including when he's at work and is not talking to many people for a long time. This little trick will be able to prevent not only snoring but also grinding of teeth. When a tongue is in that position, it relieves tension from the face as well as the rest of the body, and it forces the person to breath through his/her nose, and his teeth will be straight too. It takes about 1 week to get used to this, but the rewards are a lot better than anyone can imagine :) Plus to this try and get to sleep at the same time every night (i.e.: 10:45pm) and make sure you'll get a full-night's rest.
If you'd like you can visit these websites, they address this common but serious (at some degree) problem in everyone else too:

They seem to have a lot of information about this subject and might answer any of your questions and help you with your concerns / worries about this.
* "Helpguide: Active Healthy Lifestyles":

This one discusses the reasons and symptoms of snoring and explain the what / why / how of this.

When it comes to telling a Man to loose weight, it IS a very sensitive issue for him just like for a Woman! Be careful at how you phrase your sentences, otherwise you'll run a risk of making him shutdown on inside and be less responsive to you. Again, DO NOT try and blame him and/or point fingers when looking at this cituation. Talk and communicate together to solve this TOGETHER. If he is already at a healthy weight, don't talk about this subject, go to the next step that has to deal with the problem. Don't take any medicine (exception: herbal teas and green tea) for this, because it can have an oposite reaction that you don't want to deal with in the future.
Don't worry, this little problem WILL go away. Just be there for each other, be patient, and try to communicate any problems / worries / concerns you might have, to one another. It's a lot better to face any problem together than it is to face it alone.
I hope this helped :)
Good luck and take care :)

Is he overweight? If yes, try getting him to lose a few lbs.
Does he stop breathing at times and take in a loud snore/gasp? That's sleep apnea and it's not good so he should see a doctor.
