Well I don't know what kind of snails you have, but it sounds like your ph and kh (water hardness) are too low. This can be corrected by raising the ph and adding liquid calcium to the water. Diet is important, I don't know what you are feeding them but collard greens are very good for their shells. Snails will eat many many things, mine prefer snail jello.
To make snail jello go get two med. size jars of baby food. Mine love the kind with corn in it. But veggie and or fruit kind is best. Heat the babyfood to almost boiling (I also add 1 jar of water to mine), then add 2 packets of unflavored gelatin (Konxx I think) which you find in the baking supplies. You can also chop of the collard greens or spinach and mix them in. The pour the jello into a gladware container and refrigerate, if you are smart you will label this properly so children don't try to eat it, lol. Once it is set slice into cubes and feed, for yours probably 1 cube every day to every other day. See how long it takes them to eat it. Don't overfeed or it will cloud your water, I am finally perfecting feeding without clouding.
Since I am very new at snails (6 months) myself and still learning proper shell care I will give you a few sites to check to learn yourself because I wuld hate to give any incorrect information.

Also, this information is about fresh-water snails. If you have salt water you may wanna wait for another answer, I haven't done salt water yet.

Serve them with a butter garlic sauce. I love escargot.
