Your public IP address is of little consequence so long as you are behind a trusted firewall. Your local IP shouldn't be visable to the outside world if everything if configured correctly, and your security settings are ramped up.

Unfortunately, there's little that you can do about IP logging. I'm sure there are some programs out there that might make your IP address appear differently, but they probably don't work all the time, and it wouldn't be hard for anyone to track down an IP address, even if it's been changed. If you're going to places where you think you may be doing something illegal, then I suggest you avoid those kinds of places. Better safe than sorry, right? However, if you're just worried about identity theft, then I wouldn't worry too much who gets your IP address. They would need to get your personal information from your service provider, who would only give it out to the proper authorities, not just joe-blow who happens to call in.

If you have Yahoo Mail Plus, you can use the AddressGuard feature. This allows you to make up to 10 email addresses you use when logging onto sites. Any emails addressed to the addresses will come to your email account. If they are spam then you can delete the AddressGuard address. They will be notified your account no longer exists. The make a new email address to replace the one you deleted.
I used to get over 200 spam emails a day. I started using AddressGuard and now I only get half a dozen a day. These come from the same source. I was on one of the Yahoo forums and forgot to select a Yahoo ID to display. It displayed my email address and someone got it and I have been getting spam from him ever since. Since it is only 5 or 6 a day, it's not worth changing my address.

No program will hide your IP address, no matter what they claim. Their server and your pc are linked. If they weren't, you wouldn't be able to download the page as their server wouldn't know where to send it.
Someone was complaining recently that forum administrators were able to repeatedly kick him off their sites despite the fact that he was using Hide, they still knew it was him.
Its not a worry or a problem; its just a number that only means anything to your service provider. Just stay off the dodgy websites. Your I.P. address is useless to them; its your i.d or credit card details they're after.

There are some anonymous browsing utilties out there you can use. You have to be careful though as some of them are keyloggers and viruses. Also change your cookie settings.

you could use a proxy, but it is not really necessary. If you have dynamic ip, it changes regularly, if they went to it the next day, someone else would have that ip

Use Hide IP Platinum. It allows you to use proxies in different countries. To check your IP and the country, surf to: http://www.cmyip.com/.
Hope it made sense. :)
