A lot of people will recite from the Bible about how men should not adorn themselves with women's clothing, and vice versa. So, then the question comes to mind, why is it okay for women to shop in the men's section of the store? Well, back in the days of the Old Testament, everybody pretty much ran around wearing Toga's, which are sort of like dresses. Then we have the Scottish who run around wearing Kilts, which is sort of like a dress. What about the Monks and Shoalin priests wearing their robes? Humans are a funny lot. We have the ability to understand only what we view as normal. This comes from what our worldview is, and how we were raised and indoctrinated. I have a good friend who is a cross dresser, and he is happily married to a woman. Societal views dictate what people think, and until people can change their personal and societal paradigms, they will always fear what they cannot understand. In my modest and humble opinion, being a male cross dresser doesn't mean a man is homosexual, it just means that people cannot compute what they are seeing, and label the individual as "gay". Because they aren't properly educated on the difference. It's called stereotyping, and it's very common in this society of ours unfortunately. It's mainly due to fear of the unknown of "non-mainstream" ideas and beliefs that make people feel insecure so they try and label everything without knowing what the heck they are talking about. It happens with religious groups too. People think Wiccans are devil worshippers, (soooooooo far from the truth) and that ALL mormons are polygamists, etc.....or dress as you mentioned "All kids that wear black are GOTH" or that kid has long hair he must be a drug addict. It's just silly. It's rumor, gossip and a way for people to explain something that is different than their own safe little corner of the world. Alot of people can't handle "different", so they try and mask "different" with a label and explanation to help them sleep better at night I guess.

The way I'd handle it, when people make foolish comments I'd say, "really!??! I didn't know you were a cross dresser!" and if they say "I'm NOT!" then I'd say "well then how the heck would you know then??"

It's uneducated fools that make uneducated statements.
