I know what you mean. I get up early and it seems like everybody else wants to sleep all day. I like getting up early too. It is more peaceful and quiet for me.

In the old days of , agriculture and industrial, the crack of dawn, may have also meant go to sleep at dusk. In our fast paced technological world now, the crack of dawn may have a different meaning, because people are working more after dusk and into the night.
As for me personally, I still get up at 4:30 am, love the peace and quiet of the morning.

Some of us are lazy, but back in the olden days, they had to actually work hard before the sun came up. When people sleep past ten a.m. or noon, I am amazed that they can sleep that long and also I feel like their days wasted. Although some medicine has that draw back of making you tired and sleeping a lot. Of course back in the old days, they didn't have entertainment as we do now. I don't think all of us are lazy, just 70% of us are. And, also we have invented machines to do it for us, so we can sit back and become part of the most obese nation in the world.

They also used to go to bed as soon as it was dark. We would be up at dawn too if we went to bed as early as they did.
Think about having to make your own candle wax, and then your own candles, cut your own firewood with an ax or saw. Those things would be very precious. You would not waste them if you needed to be up to work in the daylight anyway.
I happen to be one of those people who's clock runs in the dark! A "night owl". It was a tough thing to be as a kid. My entire family was geared to early morning. I finally decided that as cavemen, someone had to be awake at all hours to make sure the fire didn't go out and the cave lions didn't carry off the babies, so it was a natural thing for a certain percentage of us to be awake at night. So maybe your neighbors are part of that percentage?

If you WORKED in a country where there was no electricity and you had to work during the heat of the day, you would typically start your day early so you could rest in the shade during the hot afternoon sun and then continue your labours when the sun was a bit lower and the temperatures a bit cooler.

Lazy? No. Were privelaged because the generations before us struggled hunting, gathering, & stockpiled for long winters for many centuries then finally achieved the industrial revolution in order for life to not require that we all (except farmers) wake up at the butt-crack of dawn.
We've arrived in the age of information, & we all should take advantage of it.

I usually am up about 4:30-5:00, but like you I have coffee. I'm not a big go-getter first thing. I don't think we're lazy though.

It's amazing. I seem to be the only person among my friends and family who is a "morning person." I am working on the theory that the time of day you are born determines this. I was born at 6a.m.; my wife was born at 10:30 at night (she's a night person)

Not necessarily...back then, they lived in an agricultural society. Their lives depended on the farm, so keeping it tended was the first priority.
