Landlords, travel agents, realtors, 2nd home owners--Santa Barbara/San Diego?

Does anyone know of a good, clean, safe rental for 2-3 months from Dec. 2006-Mar. 2007? Needs to be near the water, not necessarily on it. I have a friend who is looking.

I don't know about Santa Barbara, but in San Diego you can check the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper.
