We are not stuck with the popular music of today The problem is the consumer needs to ask for something else or the "Age of Information" will spiral down and become the "Age of the Booty Clap". I wonder what new innovations the scientists in this frightening, yet possible scenario will produce; perhaps the invention of an indestructible-color changing G-string, or maybe we'll get to see the founding of UED, the University for Exotic Dancers -where aspiring youth can take classes like "Classic Pole Dancing 101", and "Speedo Functions and Theory". The "music" that is being made now more often than not has more to do with promoting a "cool" and/or sexy image to a generally young demographic who's hormones are more often than not are the only ones who pay attention to the product they are buying. But it seems "musicians"-if they can still be called that, don't care as long as they make their money.

Music is evolving all the time. Music is the universal language. If the world was run by musicians, we wouldn't have war. People would share and collaborate and come up with a whole which is better than the separate parts. Thats what musicians do. Check out composers who use elements of the music of different cultures. There is a lot of fabulous new music out there, you just won't hear it on the radio. Satellite radio has a better selection. If I had an inkling of what type of music you like, I would suggest something for you to check out. You may be pleasantly surprised at what is coming out of the Bluegrass or "Newgrass" genre. There are innovators out there. You need to find them. Check out Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Mike Stern, Chick Corea and Touchstone. I could go on and on.

actually, i find that music changes much more rapidly than ever. if you listen to any one type of music, and compare it to what was around even a few years prior, theres lots of little differences. i dont know that its "evolving" because a lot of it doesnt seem any better. sometimes, its worse actually. hard rock bands are all starting to do that scream thing that sounds like they might puke a little, country music isnt country music any more - its POP music now, pop stars all try to look like porn stars.....

i think that most music is almost too accessible now. there was a time when you needed to seek out a band, and really learn them over time. you had to research how many albums a band had, and get find interviews in music magazines, which werent as common as they are today, so bands had more mystique. it was a learning process. now, you can just go online and know everything about a band in an hour, and have stolen their entire catalogue of music.

Are you talking about top-40 pop music gets radio play? I remember calling my favorite radio station to request my favorite punk song and finding out that overnight they had gone to all-disco (this was in 1977). The 60's and 70's also had folk music. The 80's had big ballad bands like Chicago and ELO. and the 90's featured individuals like Whitney Houston, and meaningful rock from groups like REM. Plethora is right! And now...I don't listen to the radio anymore! It's all hip-hop, all the time. I buy the music I like, from from old Neil Young to new NIN, burn it or download it, and listen to what I like. But as you can see, things will change again someday! Don't give up ... I asked myself the same question back in 1977.

And actually, "b", it's "regurgitated."

Music doesn't NEED to evolve anymore.

Ever since rock n' roll became accepted as something other than "evil", music has expanded in too many ways to count.

If you feel you are "stuck" with a certain style of music, it is because you are only ALLOWING yourself to be led by the nose. There is more music than what is on the Billboard charts.

YOU have to look for it.

YOU shouldn't expect IT to find YOU.

Music will evolve only when imagination comes back to us.
