A journal is meant to be a tool that requires no boundaries. You write the way you want to write. There are no rules when it comes to journals. I teach my students to pick up that pencil and just write...whatever thoughts are coming in your head. Can be used for private thoughts, simple things (even writing lists), and as a creative form of expression.

I would say the best way to write in a journal is to simply write whats on your mind...not to personal though incase somebody finds it and reads it.

Write letters. You can address them to yourself, your journal, or whoever you wish you could tell what you're writing to. Read "Dear Mr. Henshaw" for more ideas.

Just document anything you feel is significant in that day or week. In a journal you don't record you FEELINGS you record FACTUAL EVENTS.
