Because right after that its baseball and nothing else. I'm glad they have 82 games and last for like 9 months.

Because basketball is playing indoor as the arena. Each teams has 41 homes games and 41 away games. This season begins in fall until end in summer. The players need save and relax their engery that they used them too much in the games through the season. Also they don't want to sent a lot energy to use in summer time.
The players whom are trade from one team to other team, become free agent, playing in summer camp, and need the training to play for the national teams while they would playing World Championship this summer in Japan.
