I want to fly from Stuttgart to Baltimore. I've looked on travelocity, orbitz, etc but most tickets seem to cost around 1000 dollars. I'm just wondering if there was something I was missing in m search. Thanks!!

The cheapest would be to catch a flight from Zurich to NewYork and then take a domestic flight in the US - that's what I'd expect.
The prices are very different depending on the date and time...

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are cheapest. A layover in a major hub will save money, like Virgin Atlantic flying from Germany, stopping in the UK and then on to NY. Then rent a car, take a train or schedule a short business flight separately from NY to Baltimore.

Act as a courier. You may have to pay a mnimal fee to join the Courier Assn but this will enable you to obtain a paperback book, which updates monthly, of Courier companies and cities that flights depart from. Since you're on the east coast the distance to travel from one of these departure points should be minimal. I acted as a courier to Singapore where I completed my journey in Indonesia to see my eventual wife-to be.

Try to fly to New York City instead. Seems to be cheapeer in the past.

You should try STA Travel. They have locations in Germany and a dedicated German website. Depending on your age and student status you could save $$$$$.
