I want to live in America. I want to be an American. I just met a girl named Maria. Yes and no. Ambivalence is my forte'. There is just as strong an anti American sentiment in Puero Rico as there is a pro American sentiment. Cuba as a state would have made far more sense when Teddy Roosevelt was president. JFK might still be alive.

Puerto Rico should become the 51st state. Many people already think of it as a state. Puerto Ricans can come in and out of the U.S without any problem. Only reason Puerto Rican government opposes becoming a state is because they do not want to pay state and federal taxes.

If Puerto Rico WANTS to be the 51st state in our union, then I am all for it. There are many factors involved, of course, but personally, I would just like there to be an odd number of states again. It's been nearly 50 years since we've added a new state - are we perhaps stagnating?

Puerto Rico is a spanish speaking country with an association with the US as a commonwealth. PR do not desire to be a state, PR do not want to be like hawaii which lost it's culture and language. Pueto Rico is very proud and will never be a state of the US.Also the US congress do not want a spanish speaking country as a state.

Either statehood or independence, whichever the Puerto Rican citizens want.......... a lot of people don't realize that Puerto Rico is already an American territory, under jurisdiction of the American courts and has non voting Representatives in congress, it's one step from statehood already

geesh, if we're never gonna leave puerto rico, what makes us think we wont forever be stuck in Iraq.
Unless conquering the world is our goal, I say lets get out of Puerto Rico.

I think the people of Puerto Rico should be allowed to vote on this, you'd be surprised on how many might NOT want this.

Yes. Eight electoral votes for the Democrats in 2000 would have avoided all this mess.
